My intention was to design a promotional package for the release of a album. The three products: my music video; my digipak and my magazine ad were designed to be effective as one product. I have used synergy across them all so that the audience will know that they are designed to be a package.

Music video
In my music video I wanted to demonstrate what it's like losing somebody you care about. I presented this through the cinematography, sound, mise-en-scene and editing. I wanted this theme to be reinforced on all my products, however, I wanted to do it in a subtle way since this is not conventional of the indie genre. For example, Catfish and the Bottlemen simple use their album logo to create synergy across their product. Picture of the logo. The Bottlemen's album album is very popular and I believe that using synergy across their media product helped them to achieve their popularity.

Digipak and Magazine Ad
For my Digipak, I wanted to design something that reflected the mood of the song but also stand out against the reset of the digipak's that other indies artist would produce. The synergy is evident in this as I have used that artist that starred in my music video to be the main focus of my ancillary texts. I have used similar lighting across my products. For example, I have used blue light to represent the past. Show pictures of blue light. This creates the theme of holding on to the people you love after somebody has died. Blue light also has the connotation of being free. This is why my artist has turned his head away from the blue light as he is trying to be set free from it.

The colour design draws the audience in to my product. My ancillary texts will stand out against the rest of the products. Many indie artist have used dark colours on their digipak, however, I have used bright and colourful studio lights to illuminate my artist, therefore making my product stand out against the typical toned down, more realistic colours.

My artist is dressed in a checkered shirt and a t-shirt. This is common in the indie genre and will be effective as many people will want to imitate my artist. He is dressed like this in all three of my products, this again creates synergy.

To conclude, I have used synergy to link all of my products.

Do I use synergy effectively between my three products?

Evaluation: Question 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Receiving audience feedback from my target audience was critical to advance my work. Feedback and reviews of my product were essential when I wanted to improve on my three products. I have learn't that you should always get other people's opinions of your own product. This way you will have an unbiased view of your products. Your feedback can give you suggestions on how to improve your product, making it more assessable to your target audience. You can sell more as you have listened to your target audience.
For example, when I created my first digipak I didn't think I needed to change anything about it. However, listening to my target audience they thought I had used too much black in my design. I then created drafts two and three with less black and they responded much more positively about the product.
This feedback allowed me to see issues in my product that I could not see. Therefore allowing me to develop my skills and improving my product.

Although I have been receiving feedback throughout the process of my coursework, I decided to conduct more feedback when i finished my three products. This was because I wanted my audience to judge my music video, digipak and my magazine ad as a whole. That way I can see what people thought thought of it and i can make any finishing touches to my product.

The questions I asked were:

Can you tell what genre it is? And Why?
Do you know what the theme is just by watching the music video?
Does the music video and ancillary texts make you want to buy the product?
Do you understand what has happened in the music video?
Do you have any suggestions on how I can improve my music video?
What did you like about it?

These are the answers they gave:

Mike responded positively to my three products which is good because Mike is in mike target audience, this means that my three products works well as an indie product. For exmaple he knew that the products were indie and alternative. Mike also thought that my "artist looks indie". He really liked the music video and he could understand the theme of the loss of the partner and he liked the couple which meant that they were convincing, this is integral to the story as the audience needed to believe that they were a couple. Otherwise the story would not work. Mike said that my video had a "high quality finish". This is good as it means it looks professional which would make more people want to watch. However Mike did say that one scene was shaky. If I had more time I would re-shoot that scene. He also said that it was "dramatic" and had a "good storyline". This is positive because without a good storyline the audience would become bored and the video would become less popular.

Olly's feedback

As Olly was saying he new what the genre was (indie) as he said that I have used a lot of outdoor scenes which is conventional. Like Mike, Olly also knew what the genre. (Loss of life and coping with it). Next Olly said that the ancillary texts where good because I have used the same images, text and design. Olly agrees with Mike and says that I need to solve the shaky camera. And finally Olly says that he likes the video because I use an emotional narrative and the products fit in with the genre.

Comment from YouTube on draft 4
People who have been commentating on my draft 4 music video are extremely positive, again, these three people are in my target audience.

I got more audience feedback on how to improve my digipak. Lucy (the girl who's giving me feeback) liked it but she suggested using the gradient tool on photoshop, I did this and my digipak looked a lot better:
