Evaluation: Question 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Receiving audience feedback from my target audience was critical to advance my work. Feedback and reviews of my product were essential when I wanted to improve on my three products. I have learn't that you should always get other people's opinions of your own product. This way you will have an unbiased view of your products. Your feedback can give you suggestions on how to improve your product, making it more assessable to your target audience. You can sell more as you have listened to your target audience.
For example, when I created my first digipak I didn't think I needed to change anything about it. However, listening to my target audience they thought I had used too much black in my design. I then created drafts two and three with less black and they responded much more positively about the product.
This feedback allowed me to see issues in my product that I could not see. Therefore allowing me to develop my skills and improving my product.

Although I have been receiving feedback throughout the process of my coursework, I decided to conduct more feedback when i finished my three products. This was because I wanted my audience to judge my music video, digipak and my magazine ad as a whole. That way I can see what people thought thought of it and i can make any finishing touches to my product.

The questions I asked were:

Can you tell what genre it is? And Why?
Do you know what the theme is just by watching the music video?
Does the music video and ancillary texts make you want to buy the product?
Do you understand what has happened in the music video?
Do you have any suggestions on how I can improve my music video?
What did you like about it?

These are the answers they gave:

Mike responded positively to my three products which is good because Mike is in mike target audience, this means that my three products works well as an indie product. For exmaple he knew that the products were indie and alternative. Mike also thought that my "artist looks indie". He really liked the music video and he could understand the theme of the loss of the partner and he liked the couple which meant that they were convincing, this is integral to the story as the audience needed to believe that they were a couple. Otherwise the story would not work. Mike said that my video had a "high quality finish". This is good as it means it looks professional which would make more people want to watch. However Mike did say that one scene was shaky. If I had more time I would re-shoot that scene. He also said that it was "dramatic" and had a "good storyline". This is positive because without a good storyline the audience would become bored and the video would become less popular.

Olly's feedback

As Olly was saying he new what the genre was (indie) as he said that I have used a lot of outdoor scenes which is conventional. Like Mike, Olly also knew what the genre. (Loss of life and coping with it). Next Olly said that the ancillary texts where good because I have used the same images, text and design. Olly agrees with Mike and says that I need to solve the shaky camera. And finally Olly says that he likes the video because I use an emotional narrative and the products fit in with the genre.

Comment from YouTube on draft 4
People who have been commentating on my draft 4 music video are extremely positive, again, these three people are in my target audience.

I got more audience feedback on how to improve my digipak. Lucy (the girl who's giving me feeback) liked it but she suggested using the gradient tool on photoshop, I did this and my digipak looked a lot better:
